Hi there.
I am a Certified Midwife, a certified birth and postpartum doula, and a longtime reproductive justice activist, community organizer and advocate for the midwifery model of care. I am also a wife, a mom and a queer intersectional feminist. I was called to birthwork when I was pregnant with my first baby and found myself inspired by the experience of bringing him into the world. I was deeply moved in those first moments after his birth by the “ordinary miracle” (Barbara Kingsolver) of creating a new human and the profound power I felt after giving birth. I took my first doula training in 2010. I began working at the Family Life Center in Downtown Albany in 2013, where I helped manage the business side of a local homebirth practice, taught a newborn care class, hosted a postpartum support group and more. I worked as a birth and postpartum doula and birth photographer for 8 years before beginning my formal midwifery training. I graduated from SUNY Downstate in 2022 and am currently in the process of starting a full-scope GYN and sexual healthcare practice as well as finding a place for myself in homebirth.
My approach to this work is informed by my belief that birth is a normal, physiologic process that serves an evolutionary purpose of bringing people together in support of the birth giver, the new human, and the growing family. My doula business was called Mother Powered because I believe that mothers are the cornerstone of society and that supporting people as they become mothers, fathers, parents, caregivers and all the other words we use to define family is a fundamental part of a healthy society. I take great pride in providing trauma-informed care and I love empowering my patients with the information they need to make the best decisions available to them.
